I’m super excited to be in Colors of Pakistan 2009! It is going to feature Pakistan’s top designers and their top models! I’m thrilled to be included in the mix and can’t wait to wear the garmets. Check out the video promotion below…
This is a fundraising event for DIL Washington DC USA.
The fashion show is free, so if you wish to come, show up around 9 p.m.
The show was amazing!!! It started off a bit shaky. Who ever was doing my hair was not doing a good job! I swear, people think because I have curly hair that they can just throw it up into a side pony tail and slap some hair spray on it! No!!! That’s now how this works.
I snuck into the bathroom and took this pic and sent it to twitter (my followers did not like it either! By the way…you followin’ me???? doooo it! naomikeziah). I went to the other hair stylist and he fixed it the best he could, he was even baffled at what the first stylist was atempting to achieve. I then got my make up done, which was super heavy. They even covered up my freckles!
Much better! The clothes were amazing and the show went great. Check out pics below of some highlights.
Sooo, wanting an update on my life happenings? Well, I parted ways with my full-time job and are going to spend the next two weeks preparing for my move!
Everything in my DC apartment (minus the sofa bed and telly) have been sold via craigslist. The last thing I need to sell is my car, I plan to knock that out at carmax.
I spent today at Walmart and Target getting things for my new home. I don’t want to invest in a mattress just yet, so I purchased an airbed. Also, one thing I noticed about NYC apartments is that they don’t have closets! So I brought some nifty storage units and a portable wheely closet thingy. Everything was pretty inexpensive, which is how I want to keep it until I find a quickie part time job for the holiday season.
Other than that, I’m just super excited for the move! Things have been falling into place so perfectly so I believe it will continue in that fashion. I can’t wait to get to the city!
I have to tell you about my Exit Strategy NYC application on my blackberry curve. It helped me navigate the subway like I was a native, shoot people were asking me for directions. It even tells you where to stand on the train so you can be by your exit. I also used Hop Stop, it lets you put in an address if you don’t know what station your supposed to get in at.
Okay, that’s all for now. I say bear with me because I am waiting on my new laptop to come, it’s equipped with all the fixins, even a web cam! Wouldn’t you love to see a video of me?? lol, k bye 🙂
Soooo how long have I been ranting and raving about moving to New York? I’m going to say since July. I know because in July I got a bottle of my favorite champagne and promised myself I wouldn’t drink it until I got an apartment in New York. This weekend I’m drinking the whole thing! No sharing!!
Monica and I made appointments all week to look at apartments. We even found ourselves a realtor, just incase craigslist failed. Saturday morning, it was pouring down rain. We missed our 5:15 bus to New York and ended up catching the 6 am. Monica was sick, and I was tired. When we got in the city, we headed to the Starbucks for coffee and yogurt. I called our first appointment, a guy named Jeff, he told us to meet him at the first apartment in Flatbush (I picked this one, I didn’t know it was Flatbush).
I got on Hop Stop on my phone for the train route, then plugged it into my new blackberry application, Exit Strategy NYC (it even tells you where to stand on the train so you can be right by your exit).
Thirty minutes later we were in Flatbush, and were loving the apartment. BUT, Monica’s big concern is safety, and she wasn’t feeling the area. I wasn’t either. There was a sign on the wall that read “Whoever stole my bed from the hallway, please return it. That’s my grandmother’s bed.” Now, I don’t want to live in an area where they steal beds from gram gram.
We asked Jeff to show us some apartments in Sunset Park or Park Slope. He was worried about our price range of $1300, we wouldn’t be able to afford anything. We went to several more apartments, then, we saw the one we wanted. First floor, two bedroom, exposed brick wall! But…$1450. Damn. Monica and I humbly submitted our offer of $1300 and prayed. The compromise…$1375, utilities included! Okay, we’ll take it!! We put down a deposit and are set to move in on November 8. We’re 2 blocks from the train, and about 30 minutes from the city.
We couldn’t believe we found one so quick, in a nice neighborhood and around our price range! Here are a few pictures I snapped with my phone.
Oh, what better way to spend a Saturday! I went on a go-see last Friday to meet with designer Virginia, thee maker of De*Nada designs.
De*Nada is an emerging accessories line, specializing in handmade knits for women and men. De*Nada is the vision of its founder, Virginia Blanca Arrisueño, who in spring 2005 sought to blend contemporary styles with ethnic elements to offer stylish yet high-quality merchandise. De*Nada products can be found at select retailers worldwide. To view collection, visit http://www.denadadesign.com.
Can you believe that all these are handmade?? I can barely hem a dress! Check out some of my favorites.
These items are awesome and so chic! I’m beyond excited to wear them, and you should come see me in them! It’s bound to be an artfully fashionable night.
If you’re metro accessible, you’re halfway there! The Gallery Neptune is only about 3 blocks from the Bethesda metro. If you’re driving, you can always park for free at the Giant grocery store on Arlington Rd, then walk a bit and come on over. Okay, see YOU there!
If you asked people at random to describe Filippa Hamilton in a word, you’d hear a lot of synonyms for “gorgeous.” What you wouldn’t hear is “fat.”
A 5’10”, 120-pound model is claming she was canned by Ralph Lauren because she was deemed too large.
“They said I couldn’t fit in their clothes anymore,” Filippa Hamilton, a size 4, said on the Today show Wednesday.
Hamilton – a 23-year-old Swedish-French model who worked for the company for eight years – said a letter was sent to her agent in April. It read: “We’re terminating your services because you don’t fit into the sample clothes that you need to wear.”
A Ralph Lauren spokesperson denies Hamilton was axed over her weight, insisting that her termination “was a result of her inability to meet the obligations under her contract with us.”
But Hamilton said, “I did everything that I could. I was very loyal to them. I was on time every time.”
Hamilton said on the Today show that she had no intention of going public with her complaint until she discovered a photoshopped image of her in a mall in Japan. The shot appeared on the Internet site BoingBoing.com.
The image, which featured the Ralph Lauren logo, showed an emaciated woman whose head was bigger than her hips.
“They Photoshopped her in a way that for me is grotesque and makes her look like a cartoon,” Geoffrey Menin, Hamilton’s attorney, told NBC News. “The trouble is that it’s damaging to her. Who wants to hire somebody that looks like that?”
Ralph Lauren removed the ad and legally moved to demand that the images be taken off the Web, according to the Today show. In a statement, the company said: “We have learned that we are responsible for the poor imaging and retouching that resulted in a very distorted image of a woman’s body.”
Still, Hamilton said the distorted image drove her to speak out.
“It’s not a good example when you see this picture, every young woman is going to look at it and think that it is normal to look like that. It’s not,” she said on the Today show. “I saw my face on this super-extremely skinny girl, which is not me. It makes me sad. It makes me think that Ralph Lauren wants to have this kind of image. It’s an American brand … and it’s not healthy, and it’s not right.”
That sucks sooo bad because I’m a size 4 and 130 pounds! Geez. Hopefully Filippa speaking out about this issue publically will shed some light on the unrealistic standards models have to fit into.
Special thanks to Jessica from J. Watson Creative (link coming soon) for designing the business cards for my blog, they are beyond FABULOUS!
I was reading through my emails when I came across this invitation to Paul Wharton’s birthday party at the Park in DC at 14th and K St.
Of course I wanted to go, I first met Paul when I auditioned for America’s Next Top Model, then again at a fashion show for designer Aidah.
Paul also has a modeling agency in DC called Evolution Look.
I quickly sent the email to my model soul mate Monica and we decided we were so there! We got to Park around 10 p.m. Monica works there, so we never have to wait in line, and this was no different, it made us feel all VIP status.
The crowd was upscale and chic. We headed to the bar and started on champagne and rasberry martinis (also on the house!). Paul was upstairs on a private floor having a private dinner. Downstairs, there was no music, so everyone was just mingling. There were some very attractive men and women there, a lot of them had the look of a model, and I was hoping Monica and I did too!
We befriended lots of people (even Miss Maryland) and gave kisses to Paul when he came downstairs. They finally cut the music on, but it was close to 1 a.m. and the crowd began to die down. Monica and I mingled a bit more then headed out in the brisk night to go home.
Here are some pics!
Yea yea yea so I stole the idea from the movie with Morgan Freeman and Jack what’s his face. The movie was lame but the concept was interesting. I’m not dying, but I have some things I want to do before I get settled in my ways, get married, pop out kiddies, blah blah blah. Soooo, hence, the creation of the list, in all its’ splendor, a compliation of items I would like to accomplish before I open 30’s door. They are in no particular order, and can be completed as such.
– Be a model.
– Live in New York.
– Visit California
– Live in another country.
– Go camping.
– Learn Spanish.
– Go scuba diving.
– Go para-sailing.
– Learn how to sew and make a party dress.
– Go rock climbing.
– Vacation to a secluded item.
– Have a boyfriend and fall in love.
– Be an extra in a tv show/movie.
– Write for a magazine.
– Visit Paris.
– Visit England.
– Buy a piece of really expensive jewelry.
– Cut all my hair off and dye it black.
– Learn to cook.
– Work for a non-profit/charity.
Okay, the list is ever changing and can always be updated/edited. But these were just some things that I’ve been wanting to do…no better time than now…right?
What a better way to bring in the new season than in some chic new designs by Aidah, one of my new favorite designers who hails all the way from California.
We met to get our hair and make up done, then headed over to Midtown (close to 18th and M in NWDC) for the fashion show. The place was very nice, and they had the models set up in the VIP area where the champagne was flowing. After we all got dress, did a walk thru, and sipped bubbly, the show started.
When the show was over, I had one more glass and headed out the door (I wanted to get an empanana from Julia’s). But as soon as I was leaving, I spoted Paul Wharton! He is a TV personality, and has been on MTV’s Made as a model coach. He also hosts alot of the ANTM auditions, and has his own agency in DC called Evolution Look. Of course I had to meet him! I went and said hello and he said he remembered me from the auditions (I was beyond flattered).
I also had to ask him for hair advice, his hair is always fabulous! Here he is again with designer Aidah.
All in all, the night was great.
I was in dire need of new headshoots. At the last casting I was submitted for, Essence Magazine, they described my photos as “BLAH” and that is NOT something you want to hear.
I have thick skin and have heard it all, here are a few gems:
– Your upper half is small, but your hips are too wide.
– We like what your upper is doing, but not your lower half.
– You have sleepy eyes.
– You can’t fit a size zero?
But BLAH? Never heard that. The Mattison Agency called me in the next day to shoot. I try to practice making faces in the mirror and look at what the girls are doing in the magazine, and of course I watch my Top Model (I can SMIZE! smile with my eyes lol). But maybe I’m doing something wrong or need some more practice.
I had a good time at the shoot tho. I’ll post more of the final products as they come in.
