This is for the day time. As for what you do after night, you can pretty much come out naked in heels 😉
Got yourself a valentine? That’s GREAT! Hopefully by now he’s let you know about the secret special plans that he has for you. You’re excited! You’re anxious! And you need the perfect outfit.
If you’re going out to dinner, hunny put on a dress and heels! Save the jeans and flats for movie night. You can do the basic black, any and all shimmery colors, or join in the V-day spirit and wear red and pink.
This dress is from an online store called Mango Shop and is only $49.99
If you like this dress, click on the link and check out the back. I can’t give you everything on the blog, but let’s just say you’ll be making a hell of an exit in this one. And the shimmery silver? Chills down his spine!
Ok this next one is so wrong, it’s right! It’s a sarong dress (wait, did you get that? so wrong=sawrong?? nevermind lol) by Maggy London. It’s flattering, and the color is darling. The price, eh, $108. Not to bad.
This last one from Forever21 is a steal at only $29. This dress is a twist on the classic black mini. The zipper detail around the neckline make it a little funky(in a good way).
Now, I’m in NY, so it is COLD! Make sure to pair these dresses with leggings, tights, and the proper heels (i.e. no sandles!).
If you really want to drive them wild, pick up Noir from Victoria’s Secret. This fragrance was winner of the 2009 FiFi Fragrance of the Year Award! At once elegant and playfully provocative, it’s an enchanting blend of sparkling nectarine, sultry amber and exotic cattelaya orchid. It smells AMAZING!! Trust me. AMAZINGGGGGGG!!!
Okay, I think it’s safe to say that I will be staying in NY for a long time. These first three months have been amazing, they’ve been filled with highs and lows, but it’s all been great.
Since I last left you, I’ve still been on the agency hunt. Remember, I told you my agency from Baltimore booted me off their website because my pictures weren’t up to par. I have yet to find a photographer to shoot with. New York has thousands of them, but I want to find a really good one because I will be paying for this shoot.
I’ve been trying to get a meeting with CESD Talent, I met with Jeff from Q Model Management and he referred me to them. When I sent them my pictures, they directed me to their acting department. So when I went in for a meeting, which took me 3 weeks to get, I ended up meeting with the wrong people. They were nice enough however to offer to get me in contact with the right people. So now I am waiting yet again to get another meeting with them.
On Wednesday, I was hanging around the city with my friend Rocket. She’s a model from DC and she was searching for a NY agency. We had gotten to her first appointment at MMG, and she suggested that I come up with her. I didn’t want to, but I did anyway. As soon as I walked in, an agent asked me if I was a model and of course I said yes! I met with a talent agent and they offered to represent me, they told me they would send me the contract in an email.
Cause for celebration, no? But for some reason I wasn’t that excited. I just never thought it would be that easy but maybe it really is, right? So later on that night I got the contract and as I was reading it, something just didn’t seem right. They wanted $200 from me so they could add me to their website. Then, I would have to pay $25 a month to be kept on the website. They would take 20% from anything I made. The 20% part is the only thing that sounds right. I felt like I would be paying them to be my agent, and that just didn’t sound right. I was wondering if this is how it is done in NYC, I’ve always been told that if they ask you for money, it’s a scam. So, I’m going to think about it a bit more but I really don’t think I will be signing with them, I can’t afford it!
Fashion week is approaching, and although I don’t think I’m runway model skinny (I’ve mysteriously put on 5 pounds) I went to a handful of castings this week around Manhattan. When I was in line for a Live Mechanics runway show casting, all the models knew each other. They were saying things like “Oh yea, I just got back from Paris fashion week” and “Yea that was my girlfriend in that MAC cosmetics billboard” and it made me think I want to say stuff like that! I want to go to Paris fashion week! I want to be on a billboard! LOL! But, I kept quiet. I did manage to make a friend thou, Melanie from Ohio, and I invited her to join me on the rest of my castings for the day.
What else is going on in my life? Well work is still going well; I haven’t brought any more shoes (for now). I got to go to training at the corporate headquarters which was cool, and I also got a sneak peak of the spring and fall 2010 lines, which was cooler! My whole footwear collection is slowly becoming Cole Haan.
And then the boy that is my friend. Well, it’s been almost 2 months, and that is long term for me. I started calling him my boyfriend shortly after I met him because it was cute, and I really liked him. But then as time went on, I realized that he wasn’t what I wanted my boyfriend to be. He wasn’t sweet, romantic, and didn’t seem like he appreciated me. Trust me, I know my worth. So this puts me back on the market, which is apparently is the way to be when you’re in your 20s and living in New York City. Sucks though, thought I would finally have a valentine this year. Looks like another girls night.
Monica, my roommate and modelsoulmate, has found herself a wonderful guy. He looks like Clark Kent lol, really! Glasses and all. He’s a saxophone player. He adores her. And watching them together made me realize I want that too! Love is one thing in life that shouldn’t be ordinary and bland, regular and stale. Every girl wants that sweet romantic head over heels feeling.
So overall life is good. I’m still waiting for my big break. Fingers crossed.
You were worried, weren’t you? You thought you would have to pack up all your fall and winter boots soon and toss them into storage? Well, hold that thought. There is one pair of boots that you can keep in your closet and on your feet. It is the desert boot. Working at Cole Haan has given me a new appreciation for shoes, and I’ve also learned alot about styles and designs.
It’s a bit pricey at $375. These boots are great because you can wear them with a dress and they work just as well with a pair of jeans. Check out some more below.
These are called DoubleTake and are $99.
These boots are called Eliotte and are $105.
This pair is cleverly named Sahara and is $169.
Last week on January 11, I got a chance to be in the studio audience for the Wendy Williams show. It was a lot of fun and Monica and I got to sit in the front row, smack dab in the middle! After the show, we were approached by a member of her staff about being on a future show. Of course we agreed!
Monica got the call and was picked to be in a fashion show about winter coats. One of the models couldn’t do the show, so Monica (gotta love her) said that she knew of another model (me!) who would be willing to do it! She called me and gave me the details, and I was excited to say yes!
The next morning we both woke up before Jesus at 4 a.m., got dressed, and made our way down to the studio, which was at 59th St. and 10th Ave. We were escorted upstairs by one of the show coordinators and shown to our dressing room.
Please forgive me. I can’t figure out how to rotate this effing picture lol. Okay, after some breakfast and sorting out clothes, they began taking us one by one to get our hair and make up done. My hair was a mess. They told me to wash it and not to put any products in it. That is a no no for me and the curls. With out some sort of gel/mousse/spray/spit they look frazzled. So I had on a hat when I arrived to the studio.
Yikes! I was excited to hear that I was getting a blow out (straighten me!!) and some curls. Then after about 30 minutes in the hair chair, I moved over one seat to get my make up done, which was simple and clean. After that, I got fitted for my outfit. A bright yellow pea coat, some frayed boyfriend jeans, a leopard print scarf, and some black ballet shoes.
After we were all dolled up, we did a run thru of the show. Wendy came down in her bathrobe and slippers! She is hilarious. We all practiced our walks and went back upstairs to the green room. The show started, our segment was about halfway through. When it came time, we went downstairs backstage. I wasn’t nervous, but I did have butterflies! I think I was just really really excited! I was the second one to go out. I’m proud to report that there were no slips, trips, or falls. The whole thing went over well.
I even got the chance to meet the publicist from Life & Style magazine. She said she does events like this every week and that they are always needing extra models. I quickly gave her my contact information and I hope she calls me!
After it was over, we all went back upstairs and watched the rest of the show. One of the girls came out for lunch with Monica and I in Times Square. I then went home and got back into bed. My day had started at 4 a.m., so I was tired.
The next day a lot of my friends and family had seen the show and I was getting a lot of positive feedback. It was just the boost that I needed! I have the video of the show, please give me a moment to post it, I’m waiting on someone to email it to me.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been a MAC girl. Their make-up provides amazing coverage for my raccoon eyes and for any unexpected blemishes that may come up before an important casting or date. This girl at my job has an amazing face, and when I asked her what she uses, she told me it was Bare Minerals. She then raved for about 15 minutes on the benefits of the foundation.
The next week, I traveled to the Sephoria store in SOHO off Prince Street. The sales rep matched my old MAC foundation to the Bare Minerals. I brought the starter kit for $60. The next day, I tried it, and hated it! I didn’t feel like I was putting it on right, even though I watched the instructional DVD. The coverage was okay, but I wasn’t mixing the colors right. I washed it off and packed it up to take it back to the store.
I ran into my friend at work the next day and she convinced me to give it one more try. She also suggested that I use my own concealer and just use the Bare Minerals as a powder. I did the next day and it looked amazing! So now I am sold on Bare Minerals. Here are the pros and cons.
PROS: It’s all natural, it looks like you have very little make up on, it gives you a healthy glow, it lasts all day, it improves your skin.
CONS: It gives light-medium coverage, it’s messy as all hell, it takes longer to put on.
